Have you ever seen the movie “Saving Mr. Banks,” I believe it holds the keys to funding your Sustainable Startup sooner than later.
Spurred on by a promise he made to his daughters, Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) embarks on what would become a 20-year quest to obtain the movie rights to “Mary Poppins.” The author, P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson), proves to be an uncompromising curmudgeon who has no intention of letting her beloved characters become mangled in the Hollywood machine. However, when the books stop selling and she finds herself in need of money, Travers reluctantly agrees to consider Disney’s proposition.
Okay that is the back story and truth is most of use aren’t willing to become the person we need to become to live our dreams. No only that we do everything to avoid it and the reason that most startups fail is when the money shows up it even makes it worse. Because people are willing to deal with the pink elephant in the room.
In the movie Travers the creator of the “Mary Poppins” was sabotaging in fear that her art mangled in the Hollywood machine. I can totally respect that yet in my option her unwillingness to deal with the elephant in the room put her in financial trouble in the first place. In addition to that it was getting in the way of her working with Walt Disney to create more money instead she decided on working against him.
And it all changed when they got to the core of the problem or the elephant in the room. Like Disney she had a horrible childhood and even at the point despite that they both became really successful. Where they differed Disney was fueled to turn his negative experience to a positive one to change the world. Once this transparency was brought to the service they understood where each other was coming from and “Mary Poppins” the movie was book…and the rest is history.
In your own way…ask yourself, am I standing in the way of Startups funding? Am I willing to deal with the elephant in the room or do I have enough money to keep feeding him or her?
